Blume Family

Janelle's maternal grandmother is Irene Belle Hines. She married Paul Daniels Hines.

Irene was born to Josiah Christian Mankamyer, and Ida Belle Bittner. Irene was about six years old in 1898 when her mother, Ida, died from Typhoid Pneumonia and Fever, while living on a small farm in Meyersdale.

Then in 1902 Irene went to live with her mother's Aunt, Alice Lepley-Blume, and her husband William Blume. Alice was the sister of Ida's mother, Lydia Lepley-Bittner.

George Blume

George Blume was born about 1810 the Hanover region of Prussian Germany.

-- In 1946 Hanover was united with Oldenburg, Braunschweig and Schaumburg-Lippe into the state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Germany.


George was a wagon maker and carpenter. He married Catherine Elizabeth Ritter, who wass born about 1825 in the Hesse region of Germany.

The Blume family lived in the Cumberland and Mt. Savage region of Allegany County Maryland. George died during the week of May 4th 1891 while living in Ellerslie, Allegany County,Maryland.

George and Catherine had the following children, who were all born in Cumberland, Allegany County Maryland.

i. Unknown Blume was born about 1838, and died before 1850.

ii. ;Edward Blume was born about 1845, and died before 1860.

iii. Johann (John) Friedrich Blume was born May 8th 1848 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. He was baptized in the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cumberland Maryland.

iv. Elizabeth Blume was born about 1851.

v. William Henry Blume was born August 1853. He married Alice Lepley.

vi. Mary S. Weimer who George and Catherine adopted between 1870 and 1880. Mary was born in Maryland about 1867, and whose parents were both born in Pennsylvania.

William Henry Blume Family

William Henry Blume was born August 1853 in Mount Savage, Allegany County, Maryland. He was 32 years old in 1885, when he married a 29 year old Alice Lepley. Alice was born March 29th 1858 to Valentine Lepley and his 2nd wife Maria Baker in Wellersburg, Southampton Township area of Somerset County Pennsylvania.

William was a carpenter, and worked for some time with the Meyersdale Planning Mill. He also operated a grocery store on the south side of Meyersdale, and lived across from the South Side School house on Beachly Street. William and Alice were members of the Amity Reformed Church of Meyersdale.<

On February 4th 1922, William and Alice formally adopted Irene Mankamyer in Somerset County Pennsylvania,and Irene changed her name from Mankamyer to Blume.

-- Irene married Paul Daniel Hines on September 29sup>th 1926 in Somerset County Pennsylvania.&William and Alice lived with Paul and Irene in York, York County Pennsylvania.

William died May 21st 1934, and Alice died December 21st 1932 while living with their daughter, Irene, in York, York County, Pennsylvania. William and Alice were laid to rest in Lot 18 of the White Oak Church Cemetery, Larimer Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
